Main Text:
“Am I a God at hand, said the Lord and not a God after Off? Can anyone hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? said the Lord”, (Jeremiah 23:23-24).
INTRODUCTION:
The word computer was derived from a Latin word which means “to reckon or compute”. Conversely, the English dictionary defines the word ‘reckon” as …,”to calculate, find out (the quantity, number, cost etc) by working with numbers… Likewise, God is calculating, finding out, number by number all your life’s activities, be it good or bad.
WHAT IS COMPUTER?
Computer is a machine capable of receiving, storing, manipulating, and yielding up information. In recent decades, mankind has come to a very high technological plateau. He is now able to manufacture a very amazing device called computer, which is capable of receiving, storing, processing and yielding up information when it is needed. With this great achievement of man technologically, the writer wishes to show how God whom he shares from His infinite wisdom receives, stores, processes and yields up information about everyone.
THE COMPONENTS OF COMPUTER
Computer as a system consists of several components or parts which work together. These include; the input unit (e.g. keyboard), the output unit (e.g. VDU/Printer) and the central processing unit (CPU). The CPU further comprises three sub-units namely; the Arithmetic and Logic Unit (ALU), the control unit and the memory unit.
1.    THE COMPUTER INPUT UNIT:
The computer input unit (via keyboard) is used for keying in data and programs into the system for both storage and processing. In the same manner, God through His Holy Spirit and ministering angels records and stores up in His books, all the activities of everyone that lives on earth against the judgment day. “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened; and another book was opened which is the book of life; and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the book, according to their works” (Revelation 20:12).
2.    THE COMPUTER OUTPUT UNIT
Data and programs keyed into the computer system have to be yielded up when the need arises. These are displayed on the screen or VDU – via softcopy. It can also be printed out through the system’s printer, producing the hardcopy. The way each one of us lives is being projected in God’s own computer screen/printer. The psalmist observes that there is no hiding place. “Whither shall I go from your Spirit? Or whiter shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend into heaven, you are there, if I make my bed in hell, behold, you are there… the darkness and the light are both alike to you (Psalm 139:7-12).
3.    THE CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT OF THE COMPUTER (CPU)
The CPU is said to be the heart of the computer system. As indicated before, it consists of the memory unit, the control unit and the Arithmetic and Logic unit (ALU). The heart of man is his central processing unit. Out of it are all issues of life. Jesus remarks that evil thought, that result in adulteries, fornication, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness come as a result of the activities that go on in the heart. And that such things are what defile a man, (Mark 9:2-22). So, keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23).
4.    THE CONTROL UNIT
The control unit of the computer is one of the sub units in the central processing unit (CPU). It functions as a “Supervisor” which controls the operations in the computer. The spirit of man is his control unit. It is God’s ordained supervisor designed to control the activities in the life of a man. Where it is allowed to be dethroned by the flesh, the consequent is death. “For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die; but if ye through the spirit do mortify the deeds of the body ye shall live” (Romans 8:13).
5.    THE ARITHMETIC AND LOGIC UNIT (ALU)
The ALU serves as the brain of the computer system. It performs arithmetic and logical operations in the computer. Operations involving calculation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, divisions, bracket and exponentiations are done by this unit. In the same way, God has given man the brain with which he can logically reason and make divisions on what to choose or reject. The words of Joshua confirm this. “And if it seems evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve”, whether the gods which your fathers served… but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”, (Joshua 24:15)
6.    THE MEMORY UNIT
The memory unit of the computer is its storage appendage where information is stored and retrieved when needed. The conscience of a man is his storage appendage. This is the unit in man, which calls him to sober reflection as touching what is right or wrong. It brings him to “internal judgments” within the heart, approves of his right deeds and on the other and disapproves of his wrong deeds. Thus, the Bible indicates that, if your heart (conscience within) condemns us, God is greater than our heart and knows all things”, (I John 3:20).
With these “computer like” functions in our human system, God keeps every record of our lives against the Day of Judgment. “An I saw a great white throne and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away, and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened, and another book was opened which is the book of life and the dead were judge out of those things (human records) which were written in the books, according to their works… And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire”, (Revelation 20:11-12).
SOME SPECIAL KEYS ON COMPUTER KEYBOARD:
Computer keyboard is divided into three-sections (1) the Function keys (2) the Alpha numeric keys and (3) the numeric keys. Also on the computer keyboard are keys known as special keys”. But for the purpose of showing God’s inbuilt mechanism with which He records the activities of everyone’s life, four of the computer special keys are selected to drive home the points in the message.
1.    THE ESCAPE KEY: The escape key is often used to ESCAPE OR ABANDON program/jobs in execution in order to take up another. Satan’s inward activities in us are his programs while our sins are the outcome of such programs. God wants us to escape or abandon the “old life” programs of sin and lawlessness so as to take up His ‘new life’ program in Christ Jesus. “Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away, behold all things are become new’, (I Corinthians 5:17).
2.    THE DELETE KEY: The delete key is used to delete or erase one or more characters or a whole text or block. Similarly, one must delete all sinful habits if one wishes to receive God’s pardon and mercy “Let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts, and let him return unto the Lord and he will have mercy on  him and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon”, (Isaiah 55:7).
3.    THE PRINT SCREEN KEY: The print screen key is used to transfer whatever softcopy on the screen to a hardcopy out-put device, the printer. One day, God will print out to everyone of us the activities of our life’s screen as they show today (the way one presently lives) whether good or bad. “Nothing that is done in secret that shall not be made known”, (Mathew 10:26).
4.    THE INSERT KEY: The insert key is used for inserting or putting in an omitted or new character or word in a block of text. There is an omission in any life without Christ. This omission needs insertion and the appropriate insertion is Christ. “But as many as received Him, to them gave He the power to become the sons of God even to them that believe in His name”, (John 1:12).
In conclusion, let it be cited that the advent of the computer serves as an eye-opener to those who are conscious of eternal records. Today, individuals, banks, governments, examination bodies and other organizations store and retrieve information that border on their transactions through the device we call computer. Furthermore, the linking of the computer to the internet offers man an unlimited system of information storage and retrieval. If man is capable of achieving such a feat technologically, please note that God has a superior way of record – keeping.  SO, MIND THE WAY YOU LIVE.
