DELIVERANCE PRAYER IN FORM OF MAGIC (PART 6)
MISAPPLICATION
OF BREAKING OF CURSES
Main
Text:
“Christ has redeemed us from the
curse of the law, having became a curse for us, for it is written, cursed is
everyone who hands on a tree”, (Galatians 3:13).
WRITER’S
QUOTE:
“Christ is the only Boat that sails
above the waters of curses, and one who must sail above such waters must be in
the Boat”.
INTRODUCTION:
Breaking
of curses is that spiritual effort that seeks to destroy the effects of
invocation, prayer or judgment enforced for divine punishment or harm against
someone from evil sources or as a result of violating the laws of God. Bill
subritzky remarks that indications of such curses range from; mental, emotional
and physical breakdown, constant sickness, marriage breakdown and family
splits, continuous poverty, accidents, miscarriages and constant deaths in
families.
Subritzky
further hints that entry points for curses include; persons with relational
authority like husband over wife or parents over children, self-imposed curses,
curses brought on by unscriptural covenants, curses brought on by the servants
of Satan, like witchdoctors or medicine men, as well as curses brought on by
disobedience to God’s commandments, such as, having false gods, (Exodus
20:3ff), disrespect for parents, (Deuteronomy 27:16), treachery against a neighbours
(verse 17), injustice to the weak, (verses 18-19), illicit set (verses 20-23),
perjury, (verse 25), stealing, (Zachariah 5:1-4), stinginess towards God,
(Malachi 3:9), perversion of the gospel, (Galatians 1:8-9), depending on the
flesh, (Jeremiah 17:5) and anti-Semitism (Genesis 12:3). However, to break
curses:
DELIVERANCE
PRAYER MUST FUNDAMENTALLY DEAL WITH SIN
The
attempt by any preacher to break curses without dealing with sin in the life of
anyone who seeks deliverance is a useless exercise, and every occult preacher
is guilty of this insincere approach to the breaking of curses. The Scripture
shows that curses are as a result of sin. The serpent was cursed for misleading
Eve, (Genesis 3:14-15), Eve received the pains of child-bearing for disobeying
God, (verse 16), and the ground was curses as a punishment for Adam’s sin,
(verses 17-19). In fact, the death of Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary for
man’s sin is a strong signal that sin is a serious problem, as well as points
to the fact that no one gets out of curses without getting out of sin. In this
connection, Bill Subritzky admonishes that one who desires the breaking of
curses in one’s life must totally yield to Jesus Christ in repentance, in every
area of one’s life, making Him one’s Lord and personal Saviour”.
Put
differently breaking of curses requires the breaking of sin in one’s life, as a
way of tackling the problem from the root, for curses are not broken with sin
at the background. But, false preachers ignore this basic truth, and in turn
employ magic trick” in their acts of deliverance. For instance, it is
biblically obvious that God brings curses on those who disobey His words, and
blesses those who obey them, (Deuteronomy 28). Yet, certain preachers resort to
playing down on this eternal word, to presenting people with religious items
that have not efficacy of deliverance. Let it be cited that, it is impossible
to break the curses in the life of one who lives in adultery or any other sin,
by mere sprinkling of the so called “blest water” on the person, as it is not
true that washing of one’s feet during deliverance prayer breaks curses,
without repentance. Such things are baseless pastor-craft designed for
extortion.
DELIVERANCE
PRAYER MUST ACKNOWLEDGE CHRIST AS THE REDEEMER
The
scriptural expression, “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the Law”…
(Galatians 3:13) portrays Jesus as the only source for the breaking of curses,
which negatively affect the lives of many today, and because, curses carry
undesirable effects on people, they in turn, wage relentless war against them.
But, the presence of impostors, who parade themselves as ministers of the
gospel of Jesus Christ, remains a problem, as to where the efficacy of breaking
of curses can be ascertained.
False
prophets are always in the guise of misleading the people into believing that
there are other ways of breaking curses. But, the biblical truth remains that
Christ alone is the redeemer from sin and curses. Please, recall that curses
are the aftermath of the breaking of God’s law. According to Ben Onyeukwu, from
the Old Testament time, when people or nations deviate from divine laws, curses set in, as a way of
correction or punishment from the Lord, and this drags on to the third and
fourth generations of the members of the affected lineage who would not repent,
(Exodus 20:1-5). The implications of such curses are noticeable in families of
people of all walks of life and religions, as well as informs the reason why in
some families, there could be infertility (or barrenness) in-spite of their
affluence or wealth, while in others, there could be economic setback or
premature death, and so on. This is often referred to as “curses of the
forefathers”, and it is the prerogative of Christ to redeem from such curses.
By
way of interpretation, therefore “Christ has redeemed us from the curses(s) of
the law”, means a provision has be made for whoever believes, “by becoming a
curse for us”, meaning, He paid the price for our curses. Why? … “That the
blessing of Abraham might get to us through Him, as a way of giving us the
promise of the Holy Spirit, (Galatians 3:13-14). This confirms that, no Christ,
no breaking of curses. In other words, curses are never broken in the life of
one who fails to receive Christ as one’s redeemer, and reaffirms the fact that,
it is not the use of “olive oil”, “holy water”, “incense”, “candles”, or any
other religious item, in deliverance prayers, as practiced by magic or
misinformed preachers that breaks curses, but Christ alone, and that is, when He
is allowed to come into one’s life.
DELIVERANCE
PRAYER MUST HIGHLIGHT OTHER SOURCES OF CURSES
People
often talk of curses of the forefathers which hitherto affect members of their
generations, (Exodus 20:1-5), with less or no consideration of other ways
curses could be attracted to someone. But, one can equally attract curses to
oneself through one’s personal sins or grieving the Holy Spirit. On this note,
the Apostle Paul says, “do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God by whom you were
sealed for the day of redemption”, (Ephesians 4:30). Therefore, to avoid the
curses that could come as a result of grieving the Holy Spirit, the Apostle
further says, “Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamour, and evil speaking be
put away from you, with all malice, (verse 31).
By
way of explanation, Ben Onyeukwu remarks that one grieves the Holy Spirit when
one indulges in impurities like: bitterness, rage, which is violet
uncontrollable anger, brawling, which is rough or noisy fighting, and slander,
that is, saying something untrue that harms a person’s reputation”. He also
opines that “one who deliberately disobeyed God’s word or direct instruction
from the Lord to do a specific work in God’s vineyard, but refuses to do so,
grieves the Holy Spirit, and as a result attracts curses to oneself for
disobeying such as divine instruction, and noted that this often brings about
economic setback, sickness, misery and other forms of negative omens.
Furthermore,
apart from curses inherited from forefathers or attracted by grieving the Holy
Spirit, the book of Deuteronomy chapter twenty-seven shows other ways one can
attract curses to oneself by personal sins, and these it states: “cursed is the
one who treats his father or mother with disrespect (verse 16), curses is the
one who moves his neighour’s landmark (verse 17), cursed is the one who makes
the blind to wander off the road (verse 18), cursed is the one perverts justice
(verse 19), cursed is the one who lies with his father’s wife (verse 20),
cursed is the one who lies with any kind of animal (verse 25), cursed is the
one who lies with his sister (verse 22), cursed is the one who lies with his
mother in-law, (verse 23), cursed is the one who attacks his neighbours
secretly (verse 24), cursed is the one who takes a bribe to slay an innocent
person” (verse 25), and these are societal ills that plague the society today,
as well as manifest various forms of curses that result in; unexplainable
sicknesses, barrenness, economic setback, accidents premature deaths, and so
on.
In conclusion, please recall that this
work has vividly portrayed that curses come from various sources, ranging from;
inherited depravity of the forefathers, invocations from agents of Satan,
grievances of the Holy Spirit, as well as one’s personal acts of sin. It also
noted that breaking of curses is not possible, unless one who seeks deliverance
repents and refrains from vices that attract curses, as well as accepts Jesus
into one’s life as ones personal redeemer from curses, and that all other ways
employed by false preachers are misleading, and thus, misapplication of the
concept of breaking of curses. DON’T BE
MISLED.
