THE CURSES OF YOUR FOREFATHERS

... “CHRIST redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written, “Curse is everyone who is hung on a tree”, {Gal. 3:13}

INTRODUCTION:

       Onyeukwu {2005:1},remarks that, the concept of family liberation is fast becoming a household concept, especially in societies where Idol worship had prevailed over the years, as proponents and exponents of this concept hold that families are trapped into curses as a result of an unbroken involvement in idolatry, which may have originated from the times of their forefathers. However, as biblical as the idea may be, it is important to correct a wrong view on the matter, which most believers have carried with them over the years, as they now adduce the fallacy that the sins of their forefathers constitute their setbacks, and, as a result, family liberation prayer becomes the point of freedom.

     But, the Holy Scripture shows that GOD punishes the children for the sins of their fathers, to the third and fourth generation of those who hate HIM, but shows love to a thousand generations of those who love HIM and keep HIS COMMANDMENTS {Ex.20:5-6}, which simply means that the unbelievers {those who hate the LORD} are punished or rather suffer curses, as a result of the sins of the forefathers to third and fourth generation, {vs 5}, whereas, the believers {those who love GOD, as demonstrated by way of repentance} are shown love to a thousand generation, {vs 6}. In this connection, therefore, it becomes wrong to say that believers in CHRIST suffer as a result of the sins or curses of their forefathers, which JESUS CHRIST our LORD and BLESSED REDEEMER had redeemed them from, {Gal. 3:13}

THE ONLY WAY CURSES OF THE FOREFATHERS

CAN AFFECT A BELIEVER

“if anyone is in CHRIST, he is a new creation, the old has

gone, the new has come”, {2 Cor. 5:17}.

     Every believer in CHRIST JESUS is in GOD’s New Covenant. This position sets the believer free from curses and entanglement of the Old Covenant, the Law. However, since the believer is also a member of a natural family, whose other members may not have received CHRIST, thus, under the curses of their forefathers, it becomes obvious that such a believer would naturally share the burdens of his unbelieving relations, who suffer from the curses of their forefathers. For instance, a believer may often be disturbed  to aid his unbelieving siblings who suffer the burdens of the curses of their forefathers, financially or materially, and this, definitely will affect the believer, emotionally and economically.

DEMONIC SPELLS ARE NOT CURSES

OF THE FOREFATHERS

     “The wicked man craves evil; his neighbour gets no mercy from him,” {Prov. 21:10}.

Most believers mistake demonic spells for curses of the forefathers, and this, is Satan’s blindspot, with which he diverts attention from the real source of a problem. But, nowadays, by the MERCIES of our LORD and BLESSED SAVIOUR, JESUS CHRIST, there has been an increasing awareness of the activities of certain wicked individuals in families who cast demonic spells on unsuspecting members of their families, to harm or bring them into socio-economic setbacks, similar to those the sins or curses of the forefathers could cause.

     In view of the above, the believer is, thereby, informed that certain problems {setback, sickness, barrenness, deformity, and more} could be the result of some fetish activities of certain wicked elements in the family or elsewhere, and the believer under such attacks is not suffering from the curses of the forefathers, but from the spells of the wicked. Be it as it may, on no account should the embattled believer pray the death of such a wicked person, since JESUS CHRIST our LORD and SUPREME COMMANDER,  frowns at such prayers {Luke 9:52-56}, but says, we should bind or destroy the powers behind the persons of such evil works, {Mark 3:27}. Note, also, that some evil projection could come directly from the Devil, without the involvement of any human element. So, the believer should, as well, understand that not every problem, is as a result of the sins or curses of the forefathers or from demonic spells of the wicked individuals in the families, and so, requires proper guidance of the LORD in liberation prayer, to avoid the delusion of imaginary enemy or misfire in spiritual warfare. 

HOW TO BE TRULY LIBERATED FROM CURSES

OF THE FOREFATHERS

“Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, I gave birth to him in pain”. Jabez cried out to the GOD of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory. Let your HAND be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain” And GOD granted his request”, {1Chronicles 4:9-10}.

     From the cited Scripture, one deduces the biblical truth that Jabez was a victim of generational curses, as expressed by his mother, {vs 2}. However, he did not beat about the bush, by consulting a medicine man or a witch doctor, but had a hearty call on the GOD of Israel, with definite requests...”Oh, that YOU may bless me and keep me from evil”...{vs 10}, which were granted him. Here, it is important to note that the call of Jabez was not to a GOD he was not willing to serve after the blessing, as the manner of some who seek liberation from curses of their forefathers is, but to a GOD he was willing to make his GOD forever. Therefore, like Jabez, one who desires to be liberated from the curses of the forefathers must:

{1} REPENT: Sin is at the background of the curses of the forefathers, as it is behind every other curse, and no-one is truly liberated from curses without the power of sin being destroyed in such a life. Therefore, one who desires liberation from the curses of the forefathers should better be aware that the Holy Scripture, to that effect, also, carries the principles of, NO REPENTANCE, NO LIBERATION, when it says,...”But unless you repent, you too will perish”, {Luke 13:3}

{2} RECEIVE: Being liberated from the curses of the forefathers is being liberated from the  covenant of the idol gods of the forefathers, and this, informs the need for JESUS CHRIST becoming the LORD in the life of one being liberated, as the POINT of New Covenant. To this end, GOD’S WORD says, “If anyone is in CHRIST, he is a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come”, {2Cor. 5:17}, as no-one can truly be out of curses of the forefathers without receiving JESUS CHRIST into one’s life, as one’s LORD and personal SAVIOUR, to enable one obtain the POWER that makes one a child of GOD. In this connection, “as many as received HIM, to them HE gave POWER to become the children of GOD,”...{John 1:12}.   .

     In conclusion, please, note that liberation from the curses of the forefathers is a must, if any meaningful progress in life, would come the ways of those whose grandparents were involved in idolatry, as  no release comes, if concrete steps are not taken to denounce the gods and practices of their forefathers who worshiped the idols, and where they are denounced, no release will still come, unless JESUS CHRIST our LORD and BLESSED MESSIAH is received wholeheartedly, in replacement of the false gods, who ruled in the lineage of the person who desires liberation, since HE is the ONLY ONE who can secure the release, as well as maintain the freedom of one who is liberated. For without HIM, one can do nothing, {John 15:5}. BE INFORMED!
